CASology #153: POP

Hello, friends!  I think we are in for a bit of a challenge this week at CASology...check out our new cue card for the week!

My mind raced when I saw the cue "POP."  Soda pop.  Popping bubbles.  Grandpop. Pop music.  Pop culture.  How on earth do you make a card using any of those ideas...or at least a card you might actually send to someone?

Then I came across this adorable image ("Kitty with Balloon") by our awesome sponsor, Serendipity Stamps.  What is more certain to pop than a balloon held by a cat? That sure sounds risky to me!  :)

I stamped the image on white card stock, colored the image with Copics and paper-pieced the balloon with the same paper I used on the inside of the card.  I then fussy-cut the image and adhered it to the white card front, die cutting the bottom corner using a Pretty Pink Posh "Stitched Borders 1" die (also purchased through Serendipity Stamps).  I stamped the Hero Arts sentiment on the same curve as my card.

Addicted to CAS #66: Splash

Hello, friends!  I'm back with a card I made for the current challenge at Addicted to CAS #66: Splash.

I'm making a few cards to include in the package I'm sending to Operation Write Home as part of their final "Finish Strong" Campaign. They will not be accepting any more cards after August 1st.  I wanted to make a few "miss you" cards to include with my other donations, and I thought this code word would be a good start.

Supplies:
The Alley Way Stamps "Sea Mates"
Ali Edwards Technique Tuesday "Missing You"
Pretty Pink Posh Stitched Borders 1
Lil' Inkers Stitched Rectangles dies
Hero Arts Navy Mid-Tone shadow ink
My Mind's Eye Stella Rose Hattie Papers 6x6 pad
Glossy Accents

As always, thanks for stopping by!

The Card Concept #38: Miss You

Hello, friends!  I was able to make a few cards today because my youngest son has a fever and therefore we are not going anywhere.  He's taking a nap, so I was able to make a card in between the usual household tasks.

Today I'm playing with the color challenge at The Card Concept #38.  I think my card fits the definition of "clean and simple," maybe "clean and layered?"  I definitely was inspired by the colors this week!

I am getting ready to send in a final bunch of cards to Operation Write Home as they begin to wind down operations with their "Finish Strong" campaign.  They will not be accepting cards after August 1st, so I figured this is a good time to send them off.  I wanted to add a few "miss you" cards to the stash I'm sending, and this is one of them.

(Note that I know they don't accept cards with glitter for safety reasons, but this butterfly was cut from glitter card stock and I tested it, as they recommend, to make sure none rubs off when I scrape it with my finger.  Not one fleck of glitter came off.)

Supplies:
Papertrey Ink "Mehndi Medallion" stamp set
Jane's Doodles "Big Sentiments" stamp set
Simon Says Stamp Chrissy & Leanna butterfly dies
Lil' Inkers Stitched Rectangles dies
Hero Arts Mid-Tone Wet Cement shadow ink
DCWV glitter paper

Thank you so much for stopping by!

The Challenge #40: Nautical & SSS Anything Goes

Hello, friends!  I'm back with another nautical card for The Challenge #40 where the theme is "Nautical."  I'm also playing along with the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Anything Goes!

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog

The cue card at CASology is also "nautical," but I wasn't sure this card was clean and simple enough for the challenge since I have several layers and not a lot of white space. Honestly, this one is more of a "clean and layered" look, not quite simple.

I played with my Sweet Stamp Shop "Sail Away Sayings" set and layered the image on some die cut DCWV gold glitter paper.  I think blue, white and gold are very nautical together...just like you see in the photo above!

I colored in the block letters with a Sakura Gelly Roll "Clear Star" glitter pen for some sparkle and interest.

Thanks for stopping by!

CASology #152: NAUTICAL

Hello, friends!  This week things are getting nautical at CASology!

I immediately thought of a cute retired stamp set I recently bought by the Sweet Stamp Shop called "Sail Away Sayings."  I colored in the block letters with a Sakura Gelly Roll "Clear Star" glitter pen for some sparkle.  The dry-embossed bottom edge also serves as an "anchor" for my whole card.

I'm also linking up my card to The Challenge #40 where the theme is also "Nautical."  How about that!

Be sure to link up your clean and simple NAUTICAL card by noon on Monday (Central time).  Check out the definition of "clean and simple" at the CASology blog HERE if you aren't sure what that means! You will also be inspired by the many ways our Design Team and Guest Designer interpreted the cue this week...be sure to check out their blogs!

CASology #151: KIDS

Hello, friends!   It's that time again...time for our new CASology cue card.  This week it's all about KIDS!

Meet my four kids.

Well, not really, but I was thinking of them when I made this birthday card for my husband, their dad...a card from all of them.  They ALL got a chuckle out of this one...and they all knew which little monster represented them!  :)

Monster images from Recollections
Sentiment from Paper Smooches
Glossy Accents, Copic markers, white enamel accents

Be sure to link up your KIDS card by noon on Monday (Central time). You will also be inspired by the many ways our Design Team and Guest Designer interpreted the cue this week...be sure to check out their blogs, too!

CASology #150: GRADUATION

Hello, friends!  I'm back today with a new CASology cue card!

'Tis the season for graduations...from preschool to graduate school, students across the U.S.A. are graduating.  I guess our cue card this week has perfect timing!

I made a classic black and white card with  a layer of sparkle.  You could make this same design using school colors, too, but I played it safe and neutral so it could work for anyone.

Supplies Used:
Papertrey Ink Tag Its #4
DCWV glitter card stock
Lifestyle Crafts embossing folder (one of a "Happy Birthday" 2-pack)
Spellbinders circle dies, corner rounder, foam tape

Be sure to link up your GRADUATION card by noon on Monday (Central time). Check out the variety of graduation cards made by our Design Team and Guest Designer this week, too!

Hero Arts "Tic Tac Toe" Challenge & Addicted to CAS #65: Butterflies

Hello, friends!  Just stopping by today with a set of cards I made for the current Hero Arts "Tic Tac Toe" Challenge!  The challenge runs for the month of June, so there is plenty of time to play!

I was totally inspired to play when I saw THIS card by Donna Mikasa, my card-making idol!  :)
I decided to make a variety of cards using the diagonal combination of:
heat embossing - birthday theme - watercolor.

My set of cards is clean and simple, with one main image, lots of open space, and no layers or embellishments.  Therefore, I am also playing along at the current Addicted to CAS Challenge #65: Butterfly

I used the same butterfly image, embossed, watercolored and fussy cut, on a variety of stamped backgrounds in a variety of colors.  I know I can definitely use a stash of birthday cards for all genders and ages...and these are it!

Here is the set of cards all together:

Here are the steps I followed.

First, I stamped and embossed the butterflies using Versamark ink and white embossing powder on watercolor paper.  I watercolored using Tim Holtz distress inks smooshed on a kraft mat and spritzed with water.

Once dry, I spritzed with Perfect Pearls Mist for some shimmer.

Next, I stamped the card bases with a variety of Hero Arts background stamps and sentiments.  Finally, I fussy-cut the butterflies and added antennas, etc.  I glued down the butterfly bodies but popped up the wings with some foam tape for a little dimension but not too much bulk.

Here are the cards one by one:

All Hero Arts Stamps Used:
Butterflies (CG130)
Good Friends
Sending Smiles
Truly Appreciated
Envelope Pattern
Lattice
Large Canvas Stripes
Delicate Flowers

Thanks, Donna, for inspiring me!
Thanks, Hero Arts, for making such classic, timeless, awesome stamps!

Have a great day,
Judy

AI Challenge #161: For the Fellas

Hello, friends!  I'm stopping by today to share a card I made for the current Art Impressions Challenge #161: For the Fellas.  With Father's Day around the corner and a sweet husband with an early June birthday, this challenge came at just the right time!

For my card, I inked up the Art Impressions "The Lawn Ranger" image and sentiment and then masked it, stamping the Hero Arts clouds background in the background.  A few layers of die cut grass, a die cut cloud, and voila!  Done!

Happy birthday, lawn ranger!

CASology #149: VINTAGE

Hello, friends!  I'm back with our next CASology cue card!

I couldn't help but use some old Hero Arts stamps that are definitely "vintage" in my mind!  I stamped the lady first, then masked the image and stamped the two background images in Soft Wheat shadow ink.  I colored her face with Copics (and later went back and colored in the rest of her neck...it was bothering me!).

Stamps Used:
Hero Arts "Women in Fancy Hats" (LL778)
Hero Arts "Manuscript Background" (H2141)
Hero Arts "Film Background Block" (C2517)

There are lots of ways to go with the cue this week!  Be sure to link up your VINTAGE card by noon on Monday (Central time). Check out the cool cards by the Design Team and Guest Designer this week, too!
