CASology #55: CAMP

Hello, friends!  It's Tuesday, which means it is time for the new CASology cue word!

This week we are sponsored by Clearly Besotted Stamps...be sure to check out all the details at the CASology blog.

OK, so ask my kids why I didn't go on their recent camping adventure weekend with dad and they'll tell you the two things it lacked: air conditioning and a bed.  You guessed it, I'm NOT the camping type.  (Don't get me wrong, I am no pampered princess and was quite the "tom boy" in my youth.  I just hate mosquitoes, yet they seem to LOVE me!  And let's be honest: Momma also loves her sleep.)

So, this cue word was a bit challenging for me.  I finally came up with this idea after the girls told me how many dragonflies they saw near the lake!  (I'll probably give this to my DH for taking the kids camping and letting me stay home!)

Materials Used:
Stamps: Rubber Stampeded "Whimsical Dragonfly," Simon Says Stamp "Lots of Thanks,"
Hero Arts "Designer Woodgrain"
Inks: black dye ink, Soft Pool shadow ink, Copic markers
Other: MFT Die-namics "InstaFrame"die, white embossing powder

Be sure to check out the inspiring cards made by our design team this week, and then link your card up by 4:00 p.m. (CDT) Sunday.  Can't wait to see what CAMP means to you!

PDCC #191 - Chase Your Dreams

Hello, friends!  Today I want to share a card I made for a wonderful woman I work with who is retiring in December.  I know I made this card well in advance, but once the school year revs up I won't have the time I'd like to dedicate to her card.  I took my time and kept her in mind when I made this.  I was enthralled with the colors for The Play Date Cafe this week, so I followed this color pattern:

I work for a Child Study Team as a school psychologist, and my retiring co-worker is a very knowledgeable and experienced special education teacher/Learning Consultant.  She worked for Early Intervention for much of her career, and has been my right hand in case managing children aging out of Early Intervention into our preschool disabled program.  I'm not quite sure how I'll manage without her.  She is not only smart and wise beyond compare, but she is funny and hip and calm and a wonderful role model.  (On top of all that, she and I became addicted to Downton Abbey at the same time and would often discuss it at lunch!)  I am very happy for her that she is retiring, but I am sad for the rest of us because it won't be the same without her on our team.

She IS the type who will not just follow, but will chase, her dreams.  I hope she does just that!

Materials Used:
Stamps: My Favorite Things "Vertical Greetings"
Inks: black dye ink, Scattered Straw distress ink
Other: MFT vertical greeting die, Lil' Inkers Stitched Rectangles,
Prima flower, green gems, patterned papers from stash

Thanks for visiting!

UWYH #10 - How 'Bout Them Apples!

Hello, friends!  It's been an extra hot week around here, not only because we are in the middle of a heat wave but because the air conditioning in BOTH of our cars died this week!

To top it off, I'm driving everyone all over town all day and night with the windows wide open and I hear a ticking sound...only to find a huge bolt in one of my brand new tires!  Eeek!  However, I am looking at the bright side...the only reason I found that bolt was because I had my window open since the AC was broken.  At least we didn't get stranded somewhere in the extreme heat with a flat tire, right?

Anyway, I digress.  I'm here today to share some cards I made for a new favorite challenge of mine.  The Use What You Have Challenge #10 at Sweet Stamp Shop is running until July 30th (two weeks instead of one).  I LOVE the idea of making a card each week using up my stash!  Brilliant, I say!  You should check it out!

So, I bought THIS older set a few months ago (totally inspired to get it by Donna Mikasa's awesome card using this set) and couldn't wait to stamp that apple on patterned paper and fussy cut it.  That is a great way to use your stash of patterned papers, by the way...and that apple image with all that open space lends itself perfectly to such stamping.

Here's my stash of patterned papers, begging to be used!

I used these three paper pads in particular...

I love to stamp and fussy cut images all at once...I usually do it at the kitchen table while my kids watch TV or read in the evening and I find it very relaxing.  Plus, I have a great collection of images ready for future card-making!

So, how 'bout them apples? (It's a saying, not poor grammar on my part!)  I keep them in envelopes with the name of the paper used so I can list it when I blog them later.

And here are a few cards I put together using my stash...thank you cards for my kids' teachers.  (I like to give them cards at Thanksgiving, and I'll have three kids in middle school next year with multiple teachers...I'll need lots of cards!)  I used a variety of thank you sentiment stamps from Paper Smooches, PTI and Simon Says Stamp, all with the SSS apple.

Here they are individually...

(A total CASE of Donna's card!)

Here they are all together...

So, if you want to use up your stash (even if you don't have any SSS images) you should check out this challenge the Sweet Stamp Shop blog.  There is a prize, and two prizes if there are more than 15 entries.  Join in and use your stash!  (Note that their July release is coming up, too...looks scary cool!)

Thanks for stopping by and hanging in there for a long post!

CASology #53: COOL

Hello, friends!  CASology has the perfect cue word for this week since, where I am on the east coast of the USA, we are in the midst of a heat wave!  (Temps are reaching near 100 all week!)

My thoughts immediately went to ice cream and popsicles, two of my favorite ways to keep cool!

Materials Used:
Stamps: Jane's Doodles "How Sweet," Hero Arts "My Type"
Inks: black dye ink, poppy chalk ink, Copic markers
Other: twine, Cuttlebug "Tiffany" embossing folder

What does the cue bring to mind for you?  I hope you play along so we can see!  Link up your card by 4:00 p.m. Sunday (CDT) and be sure to check out the design team and guest designer cards this week for some cool inspiration, too!

A Moxie Fab Mixy Matchy/Birthday Card Challenge Card

Hello, friends!  I have been busy making birthday cards for the Birthday Card Challenge in the Moxie Fab World and am thrilled to be increasing my birthday card stash, especially as the kids are being invited to tons of parties!  This card also meets the requirements for the Mixy Matchy Style Challenge but I'm not sure if I can double-dip, so to speak?  I hope so!

Birthday Happiness!

Today's card is not my usual CAS style, but instead has lots of layers and papers.  I've been playing with some of my dies and patterned papers and it has been a nice change of pace for me.  Good to stretch your brain sometimes, I guess!

Materials Used:
Stamps: Simon Says Stamp "Banner Sayings 3x4"
Inks: black dye ink
Other: SSS folded banner die, PTI hexagon die,
Prima flower, pink gem, patterned papers from stash

I hope to have more cards to enter in this challenge.  Who doesn't need birthday cards?

Thanks for stopping by!

FUSION #13 and SSS "UWYH #9" Combo!

Hello, friends!  I've been hangin' out in my craft corner and I was able to make a card for two current challenges.  I followed Jackie's sketch at Fusion...

and I used a bunch of items in my stash as part of the "Use What You Have Challenge #9" at the Sweet Stamp Shop.

The challenge at Fusion is going on all month and closes July 24th, so there is still plenty of time to play along.  You can make a card using the sketch, the photo, or a "fusion" of both!  There are some really clever entries so far...be sure to check it out.

The "Use What You Have" challenge at the Sweet Stamp Shop is to make a card using the stash you have, then post a picture of both your stash AND your project!  You may be aware that I like to stamp images and color them for later use, and so I usually have some fun stamped images in my stash.  I also die cut or punch patterned papers instead of tossing scraps...yet more stash!  So, here is some of the stuff on my desk when I sat down to make my card (oh, my, what a mess!)...

Note that I am so, shall we say, "thrifty" that I even cut up the left-over parts of pop dots and use the diamond shapes as pop dots, too!

And here is the card I made...

Materials Used:
Stamps: Sweet Stamp Shop "Sweet Tooth"
Inks: black die ink, Copic markers
Other: MFT label die, Spellbinders Wonky Rectangle die,
Cuttlebug "Seeing Spots" embossing folder, patterned paper scraps

While I've had this stamp set for a while, I ordered a bunch of stamp sets from Sweet Stamp Shop during one of their sales a few months back, but I am just now finding the time to break them out and play.  I hope to have more cards using these fun stamps soon!

Anyway, thanks for stopping by...hope all is well!

Three for Fun

Hello, friends!  I was in my craft area the other day and came across some patterned paper punched butterflies that just called out to me..."Make me into a card!"  I made not one, not two, but THREE  cards...just for fun.  No challenges, no sketches, just playing around.  (That's how it all started for me, after all...and it still feels good to play around!)

Materials Used:
Stamps: Hero Arts "Big All Time Messages," "Envelope" pattern
Inks: black dye ink, soft pool midtone ink
Other: Martha Stewart butterfly and fence punches, Sizzix "Argyle" embossing folder,
black gems, corner rounder

Materials Used:
Stamps: Paper Smooches "Simply Said"
Inks: black dye ink
Other: Martha Stewart butterfly punch, Sizzix "Flowers" embossing folder,
black enamel accents, corner rounder

Materials Used:
Stamps: Papertrey Ink "Think Big Favorites #14,"  Hero Arts "Envelope" pattern
Inks: black dye ink, soft pool mid-tone ink
Other: Martha Stewart butterfly punch, Sizzix "Three Dots" embossing folder,
black enamel accents, corner rounder

I'm keeping these cards for some masculine family birthdays we have coming up. Thanks for stopping by...I hope you find some time to play with your supplies just for fun, too!

CASology #52: NEON

Hello, friends!  We had a wonderful July 4th celebration this past week, and now I'm back again with a card for this week's new cue at CASology!

This week we are sponsored by Avery Elle ... check out all the details at the CASology blog!

I know neon is a popular trend right now, but I have to admit it is not really up my alley.  I don't own any neon ink pads (I can hear some of you gasping right now as I shrink back in my chair), but I do have some neon papers in my stash (phew!).  That's what I played with, and I actually made two cards!  I used some Cuttlebug flower dies and the "Framed Fonts" set from Avery Elle along with a few embellishments, keeping it CAS.

Here is a white card base using neon flowers:

And now put on your sunglasses, here is a neon card base:

Materials Used (for both cards):
Stamps: Avery Elle "Framed Fonts"
Inks: black dye ink, Wet Cement midtone ink
Other: Cuttlebug flower dies, Lil' Inkers Stitched Rectangles,
Glossy Accents, gold thread, gingham ribbon, black pearls

So, what does neon bring to mind for you?  I can't wait to see!  Link up your card by 4:00 p.m. Sunday (CDT) and be sure to check out the design team and guest designer cards this week, too!

CASology #51 - FIREWORKS

This week we are sponsored by Cindy Coutts...be sure to check out the details at CASology.

In order to give my fireworks some sparkle, I used red, blue and gold "tinsel embossing powder," then added little coordinating gems for a little extra sparkle.

Can you see the sparkle?

Materials Used:
Stamps: Papertrey Ink "Signature Greetings," firework by Inkadinakdo
Inks: Versamark ink, black dye ink
Other: red, blue and gold tinsel embossing powder, gems, corner rounder

I look forward to seeing how you interpret this week's cue.  Be sure to link up your card by 4:00 p.m. on Sunday (CDT).  For some inspiration, be sure to check out our guest designer and design team cards at the links below, too!
