CASology #29: Game

 

Hello, friends!  It's "game on" this week at CASology where the cue word is, you guessed it, GAME!

I realized something really crazy this week...did you know that, despite having four very active and involved kids, I do not have ONE game-related stamp in my stash?  Well, I did have this cute Inkadinkado sentiment, but no images.  Yikes!  Then after cruising around Pinterest for some ideas, I decided to make a card shaped like a ball in honor of a game my whole family loves...baseball!  (As you can see from the well-worn baseball in the background, we have some baseball players in the house!)

Stamps:  Inkadinkado "Tell It Like It Is," Purple Onion Designs "Stitches Set"

Other: Spellbinders Nestabilities circle die, Hero Arts Punch chalk ink, grey Copic marker

 

 

 

I made two versions of this card, one centered and one a bit off-centered with some masking.  I prefer the centered one myself.  (Yes, I admit to my OCD tendencies...you should have seen how long it took me to get the circle cards to stay still and not roll crooked while photographing them!)

LIM Week 104 and PDCC #166 - Thinking of You

Hello, friends!  I'm enjoying my Monday off so much that this is my second post of the day!  (If you are interested in my card for CAS(E) this Sketch! just scroll down.)

I couldn't resist playing along with two challenges in mind when I made this card:  The Play Date Cafe (Black and White with a Splash of Emerald Green) and Less Is More (Week 104: Sketch).  I haven't been able to play at either for a while, so it feels good to be back!

 

 

 

Here is my card...it's pretty self-explanatory!

CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge #12

Hello, friends!  Loving my Monday off...found some time to play!  Today I'm joining in the fun at CAS(E) this Sketch using the following layout:

 

 

I am always in need of birthday cards for kids.  Here is what I put together using some masking and some patterned paper scraps...the girl image is embossed, cut out and popped up for dimension.

CASology #28: Drink

Hello, friends!  Tuesday has arrived, and that means a new cue word at CASology!  Get ready to raise a glass (or a mug, bottle, cup, thermos, etc.) and DRINK!

In my case, I'm thinking of raising a coffee mug.  (Or five, in this case!  This actually happens some days, depending how crazy my day and evening look!)

Materials Used:
Stamps:  Purple Onion Designs "Cups of Joy," Paper Smooches "Sentiment Sampler,"  Limited Edition "Ribbons and Lace," Impression Obsession "Gingham"
Inks: Hero Arts Punch chalk ink, Mid-Tone Pool shadow ink, Soft Sage shadow ink
Other: blue gems, red Stickles, Stardust glitter pen, patterned papers


I actually made several cards after stamping this Purple Onion Designs stamp on multiple pieces of patterned paper (thanks, Barb!) and fussy cutting them out.  I masked off the holly leaves and candy cane that were part of the original stamp design so it could be used for an any-time-of-year image.

Here are two of the cards I made in the set, with the patterned paper cups in different arrangements.

 

 

Can you see the glitter pen "steam" coming off the top?  I like the sparkle that it adds, along with the red Stickles on the heart and the blue gems on the mug.

CASology #27: Blue

Hello, friends!  It's Tuesday, which means another challenge at CASology where this week the cue word is BLUE.  Our guest designer this week is May, so please be sure to check out her card along with the rest of the design team's work this week.

 

I was so happy to be able to ink up some new (to me) stamps for my card this week.  The lace border is from WPlus9, while the sentiment is from Papertrey Ink's "Think Big Favorites" series (I LOVE them all!).  I used two shades of Hero Arts shadow inks (soft pool and mid-tone pool) along with a navy blue dye ink for the sentiment.  The Martha Stewart lace border punch at the bottom seemed to compliment the lace stamp, so I went with it!  (The blue strip of paper is on the bottom of the inside of the card.)


Funny story, speaking of BLUE.  My 12-year-old daughter recently purchased a bottle of blue magnetic nail polish.  (Have you ever heard of this?  The lid has a magnetic pattern that can form a design in the nail polish when you first apply it.)  It was sitting on the kitchen table while I was helping my 8-year-old son with homework, so I decided to try it out on my thumb.  I didn't get the design quite right, so I tried it again on another finger.  (You can guess where this is going, right?)  OK, here's the end result...this was the first time in my life I have ever painted my nails blue!  I proceeded to tell my kids they have the coolest mom ever.  They subtly looked at each other and rolled their eyes.  (I was loving every minute of this!)  It lasted one day, then I felt compelled to take it off...but it was fun while it lasted!

(The lid on this bottle had a starburst design...you can see it best on my pointer finger!)

Playing With New Hero Arts Stamps

Hello, friends!  Just stopping by to share a card I made for the current Hero Arts January 2013 Contest to try something new.  I was lucky enough to receive a few new Hero Arts stamps for Christmas and have just found the time to start playing with them. 

While I have had the Etched Flowers cling stamp for a while now, I just received the Hero Arts/Basic Grey Lucille Delicate Flower cling background.  Can I just say...oh my goodness, this is so pretty!!!  It has such a sweet, country, cottage feel to it...and I knew I had to have it when I saw Kelly Rasmussen's card using it HERE. 

Materials Used:
Hero Arts Stamps: Lucille Delicate Flower (CG476), Etched Flowers (CG430), Sending Smiles Message (CL490)  
Inks: Soft Pool shadow ink, Mid-Tone Pool shadow ink, black dye ink
Other:  various patterned paper scraps, Fiskars border punch, pearls, lace, pale yellow watercolors and marker, corner rounder

I'm thinking if I were to make this again, I would use a Soft Pool shadow ink instead of Mid-Tone Pool ink, it might need to be a bit softer in the background.   Live and learn...it is new to me, after all!

CASology #26 : Winter

Hello, friends!  Just stopping by today with a card for this week's CASology Challenge using the cue word WINTER.  Hard to believe it is winter here in New Jersey...we are expecting temperatures in the high 50's all week!

My first thoughts for my card went to snowflakes and snowmen, but then I remembered a stamp from Hero Arts that depicts winter perfectly (at least in my mind!).  The stamp is part of the Christmas Tags clear set, but I only used a section of the stamp.  I embossed the image in white, but before I heat set it I used a small brush to wipe away the frame line as well as the "To" and "From" sections.  After heat embossing, I used Broken China and Victorian Velvet distress inks to color the sky.  I added some Star Dust Stickles to the image as well as the dry embossed snowflakes to add a little sparkle to my winter scene. 

The two-tone card is from Savvy Stamps, while the sentiment is from Papertrey Ink's "Wreath For All Seasons" set.  The Cuttlebug "Snowflakes" embossing folder was used on the top half of the card.  Here is a quick peek at the Stickles sparkling in the sunlight.

CASology #25: New

Hello, friends!  Happy New Year!  I am still wildly excited about my assignment as a Design Team member at CASology...what a way to begin the new year! 

I think the cue word for this week is perfect for ringing in the new year!

 

For my card, I used a Hero Arts sentiment and subtle Envelope Pattern background along with a paper-pieced "Faith the Chicken" from Purple Onion Designs. (I received this cute chick stamp for Christmas and have really enjoyed playing with it!)  Some subtle distressing around the edges and a little twine finish it off.

Maybe you received some new crafty items for the holidays this year?  Come play along with us...what a great excuse to break them in!  (Then again, who needs an excuse?!)
