The Paper Players #388

Hello, friends! It has been a long time!  Happy Easter to you all!

I took a break from social media of all forms during Lent this year -- I realized I needed to take a step back, spend time on what is most important in my life, refocus, reenergize, and not lose hours of my life on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook. What a wonderful experience it was! That was one fast that I needed to do, and I will likely do it again.  I'm coming back online slowly, trying to be mindful of how much time I spend online and keeping it in check.  To everything there is a season, right?

I was blessed to receive a box of crafting supplies from my husband's uncle; his wife was an extremely talented artist (in many mediums - painting, paper crafts, home decorating, design, fashion, the list goes on!) and when she passed away he shared some of her stamping and paper supplies with me.  There was a stamp set in that box that immediately caught my eye and I decided to make a thank you card for him using her stamps. I talked to her and thought of her the whole time I was making it...and I do believe she was with me in spirit.

For my card, I used the beautiful colors in the current Paper Players Challenge #388 by LeAnne shown here:

Here is my card. Thank you so much, Uncle Duke!

Supplies Used:
Stamps: EK Success Image Tree (Love Blooms); Gerda Steiner (thank you)
Inks: Memento (Black Tuxedo), distress inks (Wilted Violet, Shaded Lilac), Copic markers
Dies: MFT Die-Namics (Pierced Traditional Tag STAX); Avery Elle (Scalloped Banner)
Papers: Anna Griffin
Other: jute

While I was fasting from social media, I did spend time making cards for a worthy cause -- namely, the Cards for Little Hearts Card Drive run by the lovely and talented Christina Hor.  This card drive runs year round and is "dedicated to bringing smiles, hope and encouragement to as many children with congenital heart disease as possible by providing Heart Center staff with handmade cards that are given to patients during their hospitalization."  I've decided to make an effort to send regular contributions for kids and teens alike.  This is a great way for me to make cards, use my supplies, and share handmade kindness and positive thoughts with those in need.  I will share some photos of cards I've sent in in the days to come.  More information about this card drive can be found at the blogInstagram, and Facebook pages. I hope you'll consider sending in a few cards!

Thanks for stopping by!
Judy

  4. I can only imagine the joy that this beautiful thank you card is going to bring to Uncle Duke's heart. How treasured those crafting supplies must be to you. This is warm, heartfelt and just fabulous Judy! I've often thought of giving up the same things for Lent. Computers and phones can tie up so much precious time that will will never get back. I'm so happy for you that you were able to see it through!

  7. You inspire me with your thoughtful fast, Judy! And thank you for your handmade and heartfelt contributions to the card drive for children! I can see why you were drawn to this particular stamp which you inherited from your husband's wife. You have made it sing the way you have colored it and made it the focus of your fabulous design! I'm sure her spirit is delighted!! Hugs, Darnell
